The year is speeding by as we enter March and are now in the full swing of spring here in the Tampa Bay area.  While the weather heats up and we look for ways to pass the hot days, there are plenty of opportunities in for both indoor and outdoor recreation this month.  From enjoying a movie in the dark, chilled environ of a movie theater to hand-picking the freshest strawberries you ever tasted, there is something for everyone this March. So, whether you decide to peruse art at Curtis Hixon or quaff a few cold ones during Tampa Beer Week, have an excellent month and be good to one another.

1. What: DINOS ALIVE
When: All throughout March, 9:30am
Where: Lowry Park Zoo, 1101 W SLIGH AVE., TAMPA, FL 33604
Description: A special exhibit of life-like and life-size dinosaurs. The outdoor display features towering dinosaurs that move, blink and roar. Activity areas include a “Fossil Fun” dig site, a new live show called “Dinos Among Us,” and special food and drinks at the recently renovated Dino Grille. Runs daily through August.

2. What: 2017 FLORIDA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL
When: Friday, March 3 – Sunday, March 12, 2017 10:0am
Where: Florida Strawberry Festival, 303 N LEMON ST, PLANT CITY, FL 33563
Description: Each spring, the Florida Strawberry Festival rolls out the red carpet to welcome visitors from throughout the Sunshine State and the world. Guests come from near and far to enjoy exhibits of agriculture, commerce, industry, livestock, fine arts, horticulture, and crafts. The fabric of American life is woven into the Festival through social events, contests, youth developmental programs, top-name entertainment, and parades with glorious floats and high-stepping marching bands.

Where: Across Tampa Bay
Description: Help celebrate Tampa Bay beer culture and showcase the area as an emerging and vibrant craft and specialty beer destination. Ranging from large-scale festivals to beer tastings, beer dinners and more, the success of TBBW has been a major factor in the continuing growth of the Tampa Bay area craft beer community. Tampa Bay Beer Week begins on the first Saturday of March and ends 8 days later.

5. What: THE OUTDOORS EXPO

Description: Florida’s largest Outdoors Expo is back with great bargains and new adventures. 6. What: GASPARILLA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
When: Friday, March 3 - Thursday, March 9, 2017, times vary

Description: The annual festival will screen some 115 shorts, films and documentaries at Tampa Theatre and Centro Ybor 20.

8. What: GASPARILLA FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
When: Saturday, March 4 - Sunday, March 5, 2017 9:00am
Where: Curtis Hixon Park, 600 N ASHLEY DRIVE, TAMPA, FL 33602
Description: Tampa’s largest and most anticipated arts festival brings a top-notch selection of artists showcasing painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, fine crafts and jewelry. Kids can get a feel for collecting through the Art Collectors in Training program where they can shop in a kids-only tent where donated items are $5 to $10. Live art happens with the Chalk Walk, when 10 commissioned artists create drawings on the sidewalk.

9. What: HISTORIC HYDE PARK HOME TOUR

Description: The 15th annual tour features a variety of renovated historic private homes. Benefits the Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association.

10. What: BAY AREA RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL
When: Weekends in March, 10:00am
Where: Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI), 4801 E FOWLER AVE., TAMPA, FL 33617
Description: The 2017 festival runs weekends through April 2 in a time-travel village of kings, queens, jousting, jugglers, mimes, madrigals, archery contests and a human chess match.

12. What: FIGHT FOR AIR CLIMB
When: Saturday, March 11, 2017 8:00am
Where: Bank of America Plaza, 101 E KENNEDY BLVD., TAMPA, FL 33602
Description: This American Lung Association fundraiser has racers climb from ground level to the 42nd floor of Tampa’s tallest building. Actor Tim Daly (Madam Secretary, Wings) will join the Tampa climb as part of his work with the organization. Each participate raises a minimum of $100. Climb times are based on when you register. At the end of the public climb, area firefighters will climb the 42 flights in full gear.

13. What: FOSSILFEST

Description: Travel back through history at Florida's largest prehistoric show where you can view fossils that were found right here in Florida, as well as, artifacts left behind by Florida’s first people. There will be workshops, kid's games and raffles.

14. What: GASPARILLA MUSIC FESTIVAL
When: Saturday, March 11 - Sunday, March 12, 2017 11:30am

Description: Grammy-nominated alt-rockers Cage the Elephant will headline this year's festival along with sets by Moon Taxi, the New Mastersounds, Ryan Adams, Chronixx, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Shamarr Allen and the Underdawgs. Local restaurants, caterers and vendors will be selling fried chicken, hot dogs, pork belly and more.

15. What: SUNDAY BICYCLE RIDES

19. What: TAMPA BAY KIDS TRIATHLON

Description: Kids ages 6 to 14 can run, bike and swim in and around Adventure Island in this annual youth triathlon event. Junior Varsity participants (ages 6-10) swim 100 meters with the current in the heated Rambling Bayou, bike 1.5 miles through the Busch Gardens parking lot and run half a mile in a grassy field. Varsity participants (ages 11-14) swim 200 meters, bike three miles and run one mile in the same areas. The first 400 pre-registered participants get a free "Stay and Play" ticket for Adventure Island good race day only.
